014: Organizational Wellness and the Enneagram

Many companies are beginning to take note of the importance of wellness initiatives to create a healthier, more productive, and successful culture. And, while many find quick bandaid solutions like meditation apps or discounted gym memberships, to truly create a culture of wellbeing it needs to be within the infrastructure. Part of the day-to-day. One of the biggest game-changers and a key predictor of business success is building self-awareness among individuals and teams.

In this episode, I'm giving an example of what this can look like -- using the Enneagram (collecting data and honing in on the organization’s greatest opportunities for growth) to creating a program to work with both individuals and teams.

Through this work leaders become more attuned to the needs of their teams and better at communication and difficult conversations; employees are taught how to be more resilient, become aware of their triggers and weaknesses, and build self-awareness and the ability to support colleagues and teams; teams learn how to work together, resolve conflict and utilize one another’s strengths. Overall, it not only provides personal and professional development tools, but it creates a culture of greater understanding, healthier communication, and better collaboration.

013: Can You Rely Too Much on Your Strengths?

When we excel at something, we tend to consider it a strength and strive to do it as much as possible - both at work and personally.

However, sometimes we tend to rely too much on our perceived greatest strength - and we see this a lot in the workplace. This can hinder our progress instead of propelling us forward.

There are other schools of thought that suggest that individuals should focus on their strengths and build upon them. That focusing on weaknesses can dissolve ones drive and create negativity.

So which is it? Could considering your weaknesses be negative? Could leaning into your strengths be too much of a good thing?

Tune in to this discussion to learn more about the best approach for greatest success, how the Enneagram factors into this, and consider which of your skills you may rely on too much (and what aspects of yourself you can grow and develop WHILE utilizing those strengths).

005: Why People of the Same Type Can Be so Different

Usually when I’m working within an organization/team setting, I’ll have clients come up to me and say — my colleague and I are the same Type, but we are SO different. Our Centers can be part of this, but the biggest impact on why you can be so different is because of your instincts.

There are three instincts that contribute to the reason people who share a Type can seem so different. These instincts are Self-preservation, One-on-one and Social, and they are vital to the human experience. They are completely separate from your personality, and influence how you engage with the world.

When we pair your dominant instinct with your Type, you get what we call a Subtype — and therein lies the reason you can be different from someone with the same Type. The use of our subtypes/instincts in our work towards growth and change, is in being mindful of if our dominant instinct is over-expressed, or on the flip side, how our under-expressed instinct may be impacting our behaviors.

To know your Instincts you do need to take an assessment, you can’t just guess at it, so if you’re interested in learning more please reach out and we can work together.

004: Using Heart, Head and Gut for Personal and Professional Growth

When I work with clients or teams, I’m often sharing that one of my favorite things about the Enneagram is learning about your Centers. These refer to one of the primary elements within the Integrative Enneagram, that goes well beyond your core Type. Your Centers are not determined by your Type, but do influence each other in different ways. The goal in using the Centers is to have a deeper understanding of how we feel, think and act, as well as draw on the strengths of those in a balanced way.

To know your Centers you do need to take an assessment, you can’t just guess at it, so if you’re interested in learning more please reach out and we can work together.

003: Developing Through Wings

Hey there — more foundation building on the podcast today. We are talking about the behavioral influences on either side of your core type — your Wings.

The Wings are they types on either side of the core Type and ideally, we want to be able to access both Wings, each of which offers it’s own set of resources that are helpful at different times. Today you’ll learn more about what the goal in using your Wings is and you’ll hear some examples.

002: Movement and Energy Flow

On today's episode we are doing more work around building a foundation of knowledge and digging into Enneagram Lines, often referred to as lines of integration/disintegration or stretch and release. Over here on The Enneagram Effect, we use the terms stretch and release, and you'll learn why today.

The Lines are basic buliding blocks of the Enneagram that you get to engage with and participate in. They offer really amazing opportunies to either alleviate pressure or to increase energy as a way to create change.

001: How does personality develop?

We are starting with a little foundational knowledge with a side of science on today's first official episode of The Enneagram Effect.

Today you'll learn a bit about how your personality is formed, how that impacts your core motivation/Type as it pertains to the Enneagram, and what the heck this means when it comes to create change/growing. (Spoiler -- your brain is really freaking awesome!)

Have a listen to this episode as we set the foundation and begin to build.

Also, I'm hosting a FREE virtual workshop, "what the heck is the Enneagram?", on 10/24/23. Whether you're new to the Enneagram or have a bit of knowledge this is a great place to get a sense of what your Type is and what you can begin to do with that info.

REGISTER for the workshop here. Hope to see you there!
